Computers serve as excellent media centers and the fact that you can use a remote control makes everything even better. If you don't want to encounter any compatibility issues with your remote, you can give Flirc a try. This simple utility enables you to use various remote controls with your computer and media centers. The best part is that it does everything for you, so there is no need to get your ears caught in complex configurations.

Downloading and installing the application is a straightforward and easy task. The setup package is small and it takes only a few seconds to complete the installation process. Furthermore, you don't have to meet any special requirements, apart from having a physical remote and its accessories, and you don't have to sacrifice a significant amount of memory or processing power.

Flirc provides support for a wide range of modern remote controls. All you have to do is run the application, select your remote and hit a Go button, assuming you have the Flirc USB or other similar products plugged in. The supported remotes can be found in the Controllers menu. When you select one, a graphical representation of the remote will be displayed on the application's compact user interface and you can interact with its buttons.

The application works with various media centers, including the default one that comes with Windows, Kodi, Amazon's Fire TV and others and you can use different controllers, from NVIDIA Shield, Microsoft's WMC, XBOX 360 remote and others. What's more, Flirc provides a few useful features, like the possibility of setting up long key presses or recording macros.

Regardless of what modern remote control you have, Flirc gives you the possibility of using it on your computer, without any compatibility issues.

Pros

Setting up Flirc is quite easy. The application supports a wide range of remotes and it lets you control all popular media centers. Also, it provides some extra features, which you don't normally have when using a remote the old fashioned way.

Cons

You need to have a physical USB plugged in, which means that you have to order one, so you have to wait a bit until you can use Flirc.
